It can handle a narrow range of tire widths. P235/75R15s are at least an inch too wide. The instruction sheet says: "your vehicle must be equipped with the stock spare tire", it is "Not intended for tandems or recumbents" and "Not intended for off-road use". There is, however, adjustability to left or right to compensate for an off-set rear spare. It would not fit my spare and I returned it. The Yakima Sparetime is more adjustable but it, too, has its drawbacks. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful  Quality bike rack, This review is from: Thule 963XT Spare-Me Tire Mount, 2 Bike Rack (Automotive) This is a well constructed bike rack;it uses sturdy metal, plastic and rubber components. Mounting it was a 3-step process. I first removed my spare tire and installed an elongated metal bolt that was provided. Then I re-installed the spare tire (the bolt protrudes through the center of the spare tire). This was a one-time step for me. I then mounted the bike rack on the bolt using a large lockable nut.This rack is mounted on a Toyota RAV-4. The included rubber straps and anti-sway attachments hold two bikes firmly in place. I am even able to put the spare tire cover back on with the bolt in place when I don't need the rack.
