Installation with the Easy-Snap Mounting System

Installation and/or removal of the Mountaineer Rooftop Cargo Box from your rack is easy and fast via Thule's Easy-Snap mounting system. This tool-free mounting system allows you to attach your rooftop box to virtually any roof rack in minutes. Each corner of the Mountaineer ES has a series of five pre-bored holes aligned along the length of the box. Included U-bolt hardware is slid up from the bottom, across the crossbars of your rack and into two of these five holes. Once through, the hardware attaches to one of the four supplied Easy-Snap clamps. Simply twist the top of the clamp for a secure hold that you can count on, and easily remove as you please. Also included as part of this system are four rubber gaskets to protect the box's finish, and vinyl hole covers to seal the holes not in use. Because of the pre-bored holes, the Mountaineer ES requires a minimum spacing of rack crossbars of 23⅝", and a maximum spacing of 34".

Simple Use, Stowage and Security

Once Thule's Mountaineer ES Rooftop Cargo Box is installed it is extremely easy to use. Secure, slip-free stowage of gear within the cargo box is provided via two included tie down straps that connect to the edges of the Easy-Snap clamps and cinch down tightly. In addition, easy access to gear is guaranteed with Thule's passenger-side opening system built into the lid of Mountaineer ES that also allows for one-handed usage, with the lid staying in place when opened. Finally, the Mountaineer ES Rooftop Cargo Box provides for maximum and convenient security of your gear via an center aligned, One-Key locking system.

About Thule

Thule was founded in 1942 by the Thulin family, when Eric Thulen, a true lover of the outdoors, put the Thule name on a pike trap he designed and began to sell in Scandinavia. It wasn't long before he added other practical items to the company's portfolio. By the 1960s, the company began to concentrate on car-related products, including its first roof rack. The Thulin family sold Thule to the publicly listed company Eldon in 1979, and it has continued to grow both organically and through acquisitions ever since. The Thule Group is a world leader in providing transport solutions for an active life.

I recommend this product for anyone who needs extra room while traveling and do not want to spend a lot for the extra room. We have a Volvo XC90, however, when we travel with our pet (lab) it allows him to have room in the back and keep all of our belonging clean, dry, and without dog hair. We traveled more than 2000 miles without any problems.

Incredibly sturdy. Inadvertently drove into a garage with a low roof. The top of the box should have been smashed, but it snapped right back with no damage at all. Greta product.

the unit is large enough for our needs and looks nice. was not difficult to install. I do not care for the type of locking mech and would prefer two or three key locks over this. If this lock fouls up, there is no way to secure the unit to make it useable.
