1 of 1 people found the following review helpful A nice yet pricey upgrade, Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Thule M.O.A.B. Extension (Automotive) I purchased the 691XT because we have a child and a big dog and I hate to always have to pull my utility trailer on extended camping trips. There were a lot of things that couldn't fit in the standard length basket, due to it being rather short. The XT was the ticket to solving this problem and overall I'm happy with it.The weak spots IMO are the price and that with the XT added you now have two weak areas in the basket where the 3 pieces screw together. However, I have way over loaded this basket on a number of occasions and traveled very rough terrain with it and it hasn't broken anywhere yet. I just would like it to be a 1 piece unit for sturdiness. As for the price: I shied away from 1 piece units from ARB (defender) and Frontrunner because of their cost, though the combined price of the MOAB+XT approached the single piece's units price point of about $450-500, and I feel the Thule's build quality is not on par with the others. It's not junk, but it's no ARB... Read more Great Addition..with a few weak spots..., By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Thule M.O.A.B. Extension (Automotive) I really love the XT addition. Without it, I would not have been able to add it to my Factory Roof Rack, as it is about 7" too short for the '04-07 Nissan Armada factory roof rack (I found this out too late, & had to wait an extra week to install the rack). The thing feels pretty sturdy, & Im not really afraid of the 3pc unit breaking anywhere under rated loads. The only real area I was unhappy with it is where one of the 691pc connect to the XT (depending on where you install the 691 splice), the XT comes with 2 PLASTIC pieces that push into the hollow XT tubing & simply "snap" on to the top rail of the 691. These pieces are cosmetic, to give the look of basket being fluid through the ext, but they also keep gear that might slide though the opening a bit more guidance. One of mine broke immediately while installing the unit. I fixed it by drilling a 1/8 hole in the center, putting a small nail in both pieces to connect them & super gluing them at the fracture. This seems to work,... Read more |
