Superior Engineering and Design
Thule snow chains are hand-made in Italy and are constructed of durable, hardened manganese nickel alloy steel. They feature dual-sided D-shaped links that provide exceptional traction and extend the life of the product. These snow chains utilize a patented self-centering and auto-tensioning system which adjusts itself for a perfect fit. Once the chains are wrapped around the tire, the installation process is completed when the vehicle is set in motion. As the wheels turn, the self-centering and auto-tensioning system activates and the chain tightens around the tire. This eliminates the need to exit your vehicle and brave the elements to re-adjust snow chains. For easier installation in the dark or during the day, all attachment points on the chains are color coded. How to Choose a Snow Chain that Fits Perfectly
To choose the right snow chain you must follow a few simple criteria. First, check your vehicle’s maintenance or owner’s manual to verify it contains no warnings advising against the fitting of snow chains on your particular vehicle. Once verified, take careful note of the three measurements on the side of the tire. The first number indicates the width, the second gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width) and the third denotes the diameter of the wheel expressed in inches. The inline part of the chain is not very effective. The chain material is not a good quality metal. If you have to use the chains for a long time they will wear out fairly quickly. I live in northern Wisconsin. For occasional use they work fine. Learn how to install the chains before you need to use them. They are tricky to put on if you have not practiced. The Thule 970XT Helium 2-Bike Hitch Carrier is a hitch carrier capable of supporting and transporting up to two bicycles weighing up to 35 lbs each conveniently at the rear of your vehicle using your trailer hitch receiver. Ultra-light but Heavy on Features

Designed with compatibility in mind, the Helium 2-Bike Hitch Carrier works with either 1¼ inch, or 2 inch hitch receivers by means of an included adapter. It is also incredibly strong, stable and full featured, as seen in its varied standard components, including: top-of-the-line T3 cradles set along the carrier arms for holding bikes in place for maximum frame protection and stability, patented No-Sway Cage technology that, working together with the cradles, dramatically reduces the chance of bike-to-bike and/or bike-to-vehicle contact that could result in scratches, an integrated locking cable that secures bikes to the carrier and lock functionality that can be installed in the ergonomic lock knob that secures the hitch to the hitch receiver.

In addition, by way of its easy-to-use Hitch Switch lever, the Helium 2-Bike Hitch Carrier has the ability to fold its carrier arms down at the push of a button when not in use and even tilt the carrier away from vehicle allowing for trunk, hatch or tailgate access (bikes must be removed first). This means that you can get to every corner of your vehicle when you want to and makes it unnecessary to remove the unloaded carrier in order to perform everyday driving tasks like parking. I have owned the Thule Helium for over a year and it the best rack is the best out there. My criteria: 1. Access to the back of the vehicle (Mazda MPV) 2. Securely holds bikes 3. Accommodates kids bikes 4. Easy to install/remove The Short Story: 1. Access: just as good or better than any other models. 2. Secure: holds bikes securely and has good anti theft measures 3. Kids Bikes: Takes a little creative thinking, but is better than most. 4. Easy to install: Head and shoulders above the pack. It is so easy that we store it in the back of our van most of the time and whip it out when needed. This rack is completely manageable for my small framed wife! I like the bike carrier because it is light and very convenient for every day use. I just unsure about the rack anti - theft protection. You can't lock the receiver pin like on previous Thule models. And in locked position the Thule Stinger Swinger hitch knob will spin freely but you could easy release the hitch rotating the tighten bolt using a fine plumbing pliers at the open bolt space next to the knob. I think the stinger assembly needs better anti - theft protection or Thule should design a lockable receiver pin for the model.
